Globally resolved surface temperatures since the Last Glacial Maximum

In this paper we produce a spatially-resolved reconstruction of global sea surface temperatures (SSTs) over the last 24,000 years. Specifically, We use an ensemble Kalman filter to integrate the isotope-enable Community Earth System Model (iCESM) with paleoclimate SST proxy records. In contrast with previous proxy-based reconstructions, our results find that global mean temperatures warmed between the early and middle Holocene and were stable thereafter. See also our other Nature paper, which used a similar temperature reconstruction to constrain equilibrium climate sensitivity (ECS).
